The Inertial Labs Miniature Railway Motion Control Unit (RMCU) Determines Absolute Position and Parameters of Motion for Any Railway Platform
All new RMCU delivers high accuracy orientation for both motionless and dynamic applications.
Paeonian Springs, VA: The new Inertial Labs RMCU utilizes 3 axes each of precision MEMS accelerometers, miniature Fluxgate magnetometers and MEMS gyroscopes to provide accurate heading, pitch, and roll of the device under measure. Integration of the gyroscopes’ output provides high frequency, real-time measurement of the device rotation about all three rotational axes. The accelerometers and Fluxgate magnetometers measure extremely accurate absolute orientation at RMCU initial alignment as well as providing ongoing corrections to gyroscopes during operation.
One of the key elements to the success of the RMCU is its use of mini Fluxgate Magnetometers, which have clear advantages over magneto-inductive or magneto-resistive alternatives. Fluxgate magnetometers have superior stability and repeatability in operation over time and temperature. In terms of sensitivity, fluxgate magnetometers provide increased sensitivity up to two orders of magnitude.
In addition to the Fluxgate magnetometer’s performance advantages, it remains the most reliable magnetic sensor technology for determining an object’s heading. As well as the mini fluxgate magnetometers, the RMCU contains state-of-the-art algorithms for different railway platforms, advanced Kalman filter-based sensor fusion algorithms, and embedded 2D and 3D magnetic calibration on hard and soft iron. Since the RMCU is designed to be compliant with railway industry standards, this device was built accordingly to meet requirements outlined by EN 45545, EN 50155 and EN 50011.
Inertial Labs, already the leader in position and orientation sensor technologies, is growing its catalog of innovative solutions at the best value, smallest size, and lowest power consumption in their class.
